Interviewer: Welcome to the Cannonbeam. Congratulations Author on your wonderful book “The Mind Game”. Please share what response you are getting on your maiden work from the readers?
Devika: The response for The Mind Game is overwhelming. Few readers have found useful tips in the book that they can implement in real life.
Interviewer: I have read the book now and it’s quite filled with human emotions, sentimental journey towards the minute details of life and those forgotten values… how did you make this book happen? What was the impetus behind this work?
Devika: Like you mentioned in the question ‘Fogotten values’… this point bothers me a lot as in how can we become so self-centred and inhuman. In a bid to fulfil our goals are we sacrificing human values? Secondly, why are we not respecting difference of opinion and co-existing with each other? Is it correct to impose your belief system on somebody else just because you think your way of life is right?
Interviewer: Why did you choose the genre of short Non Fiction? You could have written a novel as well! I am interested, rather curious about that part. Mostly, people write novels these days… what’s your view?
Devika: I chose to express my honest views and did not want to dramatize it much..So I chose to write Non-Fiction and deliver content based on facts. Post-publication thoughts were never a worry for me.
Interviewer: Favourite Topics of Writing?
Devika: Philosophy, Human Behaviour, Digitization
Interviewer: Tell us something about your publishing experience. Many new writers are looking to publish their book but they are not finding a good way. What do you suggest to them?
Devika: Initially, I approached the traditional publishers and waited for 6 months, but they never responded. Hence, I was ready to invest in self-publishing and chose a reasonable package offered by Blue Rose Publishers, New Delhi as I wanted to communicate the message to my readers. If you believe in the content you should release your book, whether it is traditional or self-published. I am happy I
Interviewer: As a reader, which type of books you like. Tell us something about your interest areas in literature.
Devika: I like reading short stories, crime fiction and books on philosophy.
Interviewer: When you actually started writing? Was it your childhood hobby or you recently started? Please tell us your writing career so far.
Devika: I sued to write random stuff. I wrote my first poem at the age of 13. I do not write regularly; only when a thought strikes my mind, I write it down.
Interviewer: It is often said that in order to write something, you must believe in what you are writing. Do you agree with that?
Devika: Obviously, even when you write a short story, you live the life of the character. Non-fiction depends on your belief system.
Interviewer: If you were to watch your favourite book (which hasn’t been turned into a real life motion picture) turn into a movie, which would you choose? Or would you rather keep it stayed as a book?
Devika: I would like to watch the cinematic representation of the book ‘Mafia Queens of Mumbai’ written by S. Hussain Zaidi
Interviewer: What’s your favourite movie which was based on a book?
Devika: Raincoat (Gift of the Magi) and Lootera (The Last Leaf)
